iPad - The surprises and how I will use it
Yes, I stayed up for the event. I couldn't wait on the announcement and see how it will affect people's daily life. As there were so many rumors circulating around before the announcement, most of the stuff in the event are underwhelming. There are some surprises though:
- $499 as the lowest price. Right price point to compete with Kindle DX.
- Keyboard dock is very cool.
- iWork for iPad.
- No camera. With camera, you can do video conferencing on iPad and other possibilities. Now it is crippled.
- Uses MicroSIM. Why are they using this new "standard" when there aren't many carriers supporting it? Is it another way of "locking" the device?
How I will use iPad:
- A presentation tablet. Hope Apple will release a VGA cable soon!
- A digital photo frame. Black piano color. Very cool.
- An alarm clock, sitting next to my bed.
- A dashboard. Show me all the stats and metrics I need.
- A newspaper and magazine stand.
- A game console.
- An eBook reader? I am not convinced by its battery life and readability. I own a Kindle and the readability of e-ink is quite close to paper. Let's see how iPad feels.

How I will use iPad:
- Paper weight.
